Our new PD Fight Club class for Parkinson’s disease

Our Exercise Right and Rehab (ERRS) team are pleased to commence a group class that will assist our clients with Parkinson’s disease (PD).
PD is a nervous system condition that causes unintended or uncontrollable movements. Symptoms include shaking/tremor, stiffness, slow movement, balance and coordination difficulties.

Exercise has proven to drive neuroplastic change in people with PD. Exercising is a vital part for people with PD it helps maintain balance, mobility and activities of daily living. Exercise has also proven to improve many other motor and non-motor Parkinson’s symptoms.

ERRS have designed this program to be safe and manageable for all levels and stages of PD.
It is recommended that people with PD complete a variety of different exercises such as;
  • Aerobic Activity at least 3 days per week for 30 mins, this can consist of continues rthythmic activities such as walking, running, cycling, swimming, aerobics classes and boxing
  • Strength Training at least 2-3 times per week for at least 30 mins, performing 10-15 repetitions for major muscle groups
  • Balance, Agility and multitasking at least 2-3 days per week, consisting of stepping, weight shifting, dynamic balance, dancing and boxing
  • Stretching at least 2-3 times per week with a focus on deep breathing and dynamic stretching before exercises.
ERRS Exercise Physiologist Team will be combining all of the above exercise types within a 45min session once per week, with the ability to incorporate a second session during the week.
