Georgia’s Mead Journey

Posted on 15 June 2022 by Mead Physio Group

A long time Mead Physio Group patient, Georgia Hischar has been visiting us for over 8 years and more recently has joined our team, gaining real life clinical experience and an insight into our profession, as she studies Physiotherapy at Curtin University.
Georgia’s journey with Mead Physio Group began many years ago. She played a number of competitive sports throughout her childhood and as happens, also received her fair share of injuries.
Below we have some further detail from Georgia as she shares more about her Mead Physio Group journey, where it started and where it’s going.

‍Studying and working - a head start in my journey to becoming a Physiotherapist

Hi I’m Georgia Hischar. I am a first year Physiotherapy student at Curtin University and a receptionist at Mead Physio.
I have always aspired to become a Physiotherapist. Initially, I did voluntary work experience with the Mead Physio team to gain more insight into the profession. From there I was lucky enough to be offered a receptionist position at the Kalamunda clinic in 2021.
I started my physiotherapy degree at Curtin University earlier this year and being a part of Mead Physio has given me many opportunities to learn and develop my understanding about the career from a different angle. I have been given the chance to observe and discover some of a physios behind-the-scenes work first hand, which isn’t taught at university.
I believe working at Mead has given me a head start in my journey to becoming a Physiotherapist and I am thrilled to see where this position takes me in the future.

Injury Management – bouncing back from every injury and continuing my love for sport.

I am not new to the world of Physiotherapy as I have been a patient at Mead Physio since I was 10 years old. I have grown up playing an abundance of competitive sports, sometimes up to 6 times a week, which has ultimately led to many injuries. From knee, back and neck pain to torn ligaments and shin splints, the physiotherapists at Mead have allowed me to bounce back from every injury and continue my love for sport.
A significant experience I had with Mead is when I tore ligaments in my ankle only 3 weeks before flying to the National Netball Championships in Queensland. I went to physio in the lead up where I was given effective exercises, a recovery program and in-clinic treatments to aid in my rehabilitation.
Due to the helpful and determined staff at Mead Physio, I made a full recovery giving me the confidence to compete and play my best at the championship.
Another occasion Mead helped me was during a period of time where I experienced reoccurring shin splints. In order to manage this injury long term, one of the physios and I scheduled to meet at regular 6-week intervals to undergo acupuncture treatment and massage. This preventative measure allowed me to return to sport in no time and avoid the injury returning.
My experiences at the clinic has taught me new ways to prevent these injuries from occurring and helped me achieve my goals.
It has been a privilege to assist Georgia through the pain management and recovery of each of her injuries, knowing she was able to continue her love for sport each time. It is also a great privilege to have Georgia in the clinic and to play our role in training up the next generation of Physiotherapists. It is a wonderful thing to be able to share our knowledge, experience and skills with those also passionate about good quality healthcare.
