Meet the team - Andrew Wilson

As one of our Senior Physiotherapists, Andrew is a Perth Hills local passionate about helping others and making a difference for people with complex problems. Andrew has been part of the Mead Physio Group since we opened in Forrestfield almost 10 years ago.

‍

We asked Andrew a few questions to get to know him better and his Q&A was a great insight to his passions and interests both at work and outside of work. Take a look…

‍

How long have you worked for Mead Physio Group:

I owned the Forrestfield clinic for many years before it became part of the Mead Group nearly ten years ago.

‍

What is your role at Mead Physio Group and what does it entail?

My role is mostly as a clinician but from time to time the Group provides clinical placement for Physiotherapy Students. I am available to support newer members of staff at this clinic. All of us here need to communicate with the larger medical community- G.P’s, Specialists and other paramedicals- and we also need to communicate with others within the Mead Group as we each have unique skills and insights to offer.

‍

What do you love most about working at Mead Physio Group?

I enjoy hearing my clients’ stories. I find that it helps enormously to appreciate the context of the problems for which people are seeking help. It illustrates the obstacles and opportunities on the path forward, and I do love it when I can make a difference for people with complex problems! I like helping people with orthopaedic issues, I like treating people whom I have come to know well over time, and their children, and sometimes now their grandchildren. It is also a bit special when I see one of my clients on TV!

‍

Your word of advice about spinal pain

My best advice regarding most spinal pain and quite a lot of other pains as well is don’t sit for too long; but really we need to take a break from any particular activity or posture because variety is good for us. My advice to almost everybody for almost everything is to stay active (with some things that you like to do!)

‍

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I have children and grandchildren who occupy much of my time. I like keeping up with the physical sciences in general, and probably the space sciences in particular. I like making things using mostly masonry, blacksmithing, welding and casting techniques. I love listening to music or making it, and I am interested in languages and the broad sweep of the history of life.

‍

What is an interesting fact about you? Or something we don’t know about you?

My activities outside work include solar thermal cooking, mostly using a powerful mirror that I made from a repurposed microwave receiver. I have presented two papers at an international conference in Europe.
